Located just five minutes south of Ōtaki on the old State Highway, Threaded Needle is a beautifully renovated rural retreat offering modern comforts in a tranquil setting. It combines the warmth of home with a spacious, dedicated craft room designed for creativity.
Each guest enjoys their own comfortable bed and a personal table to work at, along with snacks and delicious home baking to keep you going while you create. In the cooler months, settle in beside the cosy fire, or during summer evenings relax on the deck and take in the beautiful rural views.

What to expect.

The retreat has plenty of space and can sleep up to 10 guests. The accommodation is made up of 5 twin share cabins with ensuites. These are located a short stroll from the craft room.
Check-in is from midday on arrival day and you don’t have to rush — check-out is at 3pm on departure day.
Fresh linen, towels, and bedding all provided.
Don’t worry about running out of hot water you’ll have endless, showers thanks to our infinity system.

At Threaded Needle you can choose to cater yourselves or have us cater for you.
Catering includes some of our favourite traditional home cooked meals and baking. Since it’s an un-hosted retreat, you might need to do a little light prep here and there (check our FAQ for the details).
You’ll also have plenty of tea, coffee, and bottled water on hand.

You get your own workspace with a table and rolling chair, plus great lighting and easy-to-reach power outlets.
We’ve got an ironing table with irons, a cutting table set at the perfect height, two cutting boards, and even a light box to make your projects easier and more fun.

To lock in your retreat, contact us with your preferred weekend.
A $150 non-refundable deposit is needed within 2 weeks to hold your spot.
We’ll send you an invoice for the full balance 30 days before your retreat, which needs to be paid before your weekend. Payments are easy via bank transfer — account details will be on your invoice.
For catered weekends, we need at least 7 guests to make it happen.
Want to make your retreat extra special? You can add an extra night by checking in on Thursday or heading home late on Monday for just $30 per guest, per night.
The villa can also be booked for smaller “getaway weekends,” depending on availability. We’ll confirm these dates before your booking.
Have a small group? Team up with another crew—the retreat is roomy enough to comfortably host two groups at once.
